Generation X Heros

I've identified 3 Generation X heros who have popped up in recent years. Beck, David Eggers, and Tom Green all share similar styles not seen recently in recorded history. Beck burst upon the scene in 1994 with "Loser," an unconventional love song wherein the narrator used common nomenclature to express his low self-esteem, and asked the object of his affection to end his life. David Eggers is on a book tour to promote the paperback edition of his "Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," about how he spent his twenties raising his younger brother after his parents passed away. Tom Green started a local cable show which was picked up by Comedy Central and MTV, and ushered in a new brand of comedy based on how far societal limits can be pushed. He stars in a new movie, "Freddy Got Fingered," which opens soon.

These three heros share a style of digressive self-consciousness. This expresses itself in the need to explain themselves and their every motivation in their work, or, in Beck's case, as a listing of loosely-related verses.
